Tell us a little about what you make.
I am a painter working mostly in acrylic on board.
What was your creative journey like, what led you to being a designer/maker?
My creative journey began with my family, they owned an art gallery for over 20 years. We had so much art at home it was hanging on the toilet door! So art was always part of my life.
After leaving school I completed a BFA here in Dunedin then began working at the family business. These days you will find me in my home studio making my art.
How would you describe your design aesthetic/identity and where do you find your inspiration?
I try not to overthink my design aesthetic or identity, I make my best artwork when I paint what I like.
I find my inspiration from the artists' work I saw everyday in my childhood home, these include the painters Annie Baird, John Robinson and Lindsay Crooks to name a few, but there are many others. The beach is a constant source of inspiration and I never tire of it, neither does my dog!
Do you have any advice for other makers and budding creatives?
My advice is to do a little everyday even if it seems small, just keep making.
What is the best part about being involved in GUILD?
The best part about being involved in Guild is the people! I love seeing the new work the designers make, hearing about their creative processes and new ideas. It's great to get out of the studio and open up the shop every week, make sales and chat to customers. I really enjoy the social aspect and of course Guild is something to be proud of.
