Katad NZ

Katad NZ are unique and beautifully crafted leather goods made here in Dunedin by Dino Narciso.

Tell us a little about what you make.

Katad is a sustainable brand of high-quality leather products made from repurposed materials, giving new life to items that would otherwise go to waste. By salvaging discarded leather and upcycling it into stylish, functional goods, we combine craftsmanship with environmental responsibility.

Each piece is thoughtfully created and hand-stitched, reflecting a commitment to both durability and sustainability. Through this approach, we not only reduces waste but also tell a story of transformation — where old materials are reborn as beautiful, purposeful products.

What was your creative journey like, what led you to being a designer/maker?

It was basically a transition decision. We used to make bags made of fabric then my partner and I just decided we would try combining leather and fabric to our designs. I eventually ventured to the full hand-stitching and handmade leather items. It has been a decade since I started Katad.

How would you describe your design aesthetic/identity and where do you find your inspiration?

My designs are really simple and useful. I get inspired by everyday things. My basic concept is — simplify, simplify, simplify.

Do you have any advice for other makers and budding creatives?

Just create what makes you feel good and everything will follow.
Selling is just second to what I feel when I finish a wallet or belt or any items I make.
