DARLENE GORE
Darlene Gore is a Dunedin fashion designer who has showcased collections at New Zealand Fashion Week. Often limited in run, be sure to come in and try on for yourself.
Tell us a little about what you make.
I make clothing and I like to focus on tailored garments using mainly natural fibres. I’m a collector of beautiful things and often incorporate really special vintage fabrics into the lining of my pieces where I can.
What was your creative journey like, what led you to being a designer/maker?
From a very young age I was interested in art and design. I wen to Otago Polytechnic here in Dunedin and completed the 3 year fashion and design course. I’ve done lots of other things in between but always seem to come back to making clothes.
How would you describe your design aesthetic/identity and where do you find your inspiration?
I like to create tailored garments with a focus on quality fabric, fit and finish. I’m inspired by beautiful fabrics and classic tailored design.
Do you have any advice for other makers and budding creatives?
Keep at it, it isn’t easy but it is very rewarding to do the thing you love.
What is the best part about being involved in GUILD?
I’ve been part of Guild for about 10 years, since it first started. I’m grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to meet other likeminded designers and be part of a collective that encourages creativity.
